The Picard family makes traditional Burgundy terroir wines.
The Domaine Famille Picard in Chassagne-Montrachet was established in 1951. At that time, Louis Félix Picard was able to purchase a two-hectare vineyard in the community of Chagny. Soon afterwards, his son Michel Picard, just 15 years old, left school to enter his father’s business and to learn from scratch the career that would become his passion. He spent every moment of his free time crisscrossing Burgundy and getting to know vineyards and winemakers. In the early 1970s he took over the business with his wife, Liliane, who also comes from a winemaking family. Today their daughter Francine and son Gabriel Picard are writing the next chapter of this winery. In 2006 they took over responsibility for the production of 140 hectares of vines.
Best terroir, strict yield delimitation
They remain true to the old traditions that have made Burgundy great, without pandering to any new trends: first-class locations, terroir wines, rigorous work in the vineyard and quantity limits – these are the «secrets». All perfectly in keeping with the family home, the magnificent Château de Chassagne-Montrachet with its fantastic vaulted cellars from the 11th and 14th centuries. The castle is open to visitors for tours and tastings. There are also five luxurious guest rooms with every creature comfort laid on.
