Update NowCan you imagine San Gimignano without its unique, Unesco-protected medieval towers? It’s unthinkable! Equally unthinkable is San Gimignano without its vivacious white wine, made from the Vernaccia grape. This latter owes a great deal to the Teruzzi winery, which was established in 1974 by racing driver and jockey Enrico Teruzzi and his wife Carmen Puthod, prima ballerina at La Scala in Milan. Seeking the advice of Emile Peynaud, one of the greats of modern oenology, the couple decided from the start to use the local speciality, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano white grape variety – but also to introduce modern winemaking technology and innovation. In brief, to aim for top quality. With the Terre di tufi they even created the first white «Super Tuscan».
Since the end of 2016, the 94-hectare winery in Tuscany (of which around 60 hectares are planted with Vernaccia) has been owned by the Franciacorta-based family holding Terra Moretti, represented by Vittorio and his daughter Francesca Moretti.
