The wines of Tenuta Ornellaia in Tuscany are among the absolute best in the world.

In the 1970s, Marchese Lodovico Antinori had the idea of using Bordeaux varieties to create a top Italian wine. In 1981, after a lengthy project planning phase, Lodovico hired André Tchelistcheff, the doyen of Californian oenologists, as a consultant. Lodovico's vision was realised at the Tenuta Ornellaia estate in Maremma: The cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot has become a global hit. The last vintages were unanimously awarded the highest scores by industry critics.

After several changes of ownership, Ornellaia now belongs to the noble Frescobaldi wine dynasty. Marco Balsimelli has been in charge of wine production since 2024. He is assisted by the young oenologist Denise Cosentino.
