Didier Delagrange has dedicated himself heart and soul to wine – like the six generations before him.
«My goal is succulent, fruity wines of great elegance, that reflect the terroirs where they grow,» says Didier Delagrange. With great passion and plenty of savoir-faire, he is the sixth generation to manage Domaine Henri Delagrange et Fils, based in Volnay in the Côte-d’Or département. Delagrange, who imbibed his love of wine to a certain extent with his mother’s milk, has been actively supported for many years by his wife Hélène. Working with great respect for their terroirs, they cultivate a total of 14.5 hectares of vines in the Côte de Beaune, including prime locations in famous appellations such as Aloxe-Corton, Bourgogne Aligoté. Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Meursault, Pommard and Volnay.
To get the absolute best from their «cépages nobles» – French for the world’s top grape varieties – they focus their attention on meticulous and strict work in the vineyards. All the fertiliser is organic, the harvest is done by hand and only healthy, perfectly ripe grapes are picked. Didier Delagrange is deliberately restrained when it comes to intervening in the cellar. This gives his wines – including the superb premier cru Volnay Clos de Chênes – an unmistakeable personal stamp.
