Blunder: Pouring too much wine into the glass at a tastingBlunder: Pouring too much wine into the glass at a tasting

Do not smoke when drinking wine

Smoking, perfume, brushing your teeth – and drinking wine. These things don’t go together. We tell you why. And why water and bread should always be at hand when tasting wine.

When partaking in a wine tasting, you should leave your cigarettes and your chewing gum in your bag. They have too big an impact on your ability to perceive flavours. You should drink only water before and during the tasting, and eat only bread, or nothing at all. We also recommend drinking a sip of water between different wines. This cleanses your palate so you can better perceive new aromas.

In addition, be conservative with your use of perfume. If you use too much, it can cloud your senses and affect the sensory experience of drinking wine.

So the party’s over and the guests have left. It’s understandable to want to get to bed as soon as possible. But be careful: You should wait at least one hour after the last glass of wine before brushing your teeth. Otherwise, you could end up brushing the wine’s tannins into your enamel and risk unsightly discolouration.
