Natural cork is very elastic. It adjusts to the shape of the bottle and protects the wine for storing and ageing. If you are a passionate collector of older vintages, you will know that even high-quality corks can begin to crumble over the years. This is where a normal corkscrew reaches its limits.
A two-pronged bottle opener can be a great help for opening aged wines. This is a special type of bottle opener with two prongs on the sides, which you slide – carefully! – between the cork and the bottleneck. Then you can slowly twist the cork out.
Didn’t work on your first try? Not to worry, here’s our tip for when a broken cork gets stuck in the bottleneck: repeat the above process. If there are only scraps of cork left in the bottleneck, push it into the bottle and then carefully decant the wine.
A two-pronged wine bottle opener can, of course, be used to open all varieties and vintages of wine. Incidentally, by mastering this not-so-commonplace bottle opener, you will also astound your guests with your skills…
