Update Nowin 1971, Marchese Piero Antinori blended the traditional Sangiovese with international grape varieties such as Cabernet. He left out the white grapes which were normally added to Chianti at that time. Moreover, he was the first to mature the wine in barrique. Naturally, a wine of this nature could no longer be called Chianti classico. The Antinoris therefore released it for sale as Vino da Tavola. Today it is rightly regarded as the father of all Super Tuscans. A ground-breaking wine – and one that is eminently drinkable.
