Have you ever been to Liguria? What beautiful panoramic views! The vineyards cling onto the steep hillsides with the glittering ocean below. Just pause a moment to imagine how much effort, how much willpower, how much sweat and how much passion it takes to manage vines like these. This was exactly the kind of challenge that Rossana Zappa and Roberto Tozzi were looking for. Since 2004 they have been systematically buying fallow parcels of land – steep, inaccessible, overgrown – and gradually bringing them back to life. All out of love for a very special grape: the Pigato. The local variety of the Vermentino has always been at home here, but it had been almost completely forgotten. Its white wines show a wonderful spiciness and juicy structure. «Wines with emotion» is what they both wanted to make, they said. And you can taste exactly that.
Today, Rossana is no longer part of the operation; Roberto is continuing the adventure with his brother and his brother’s children. It speaks volumes for an ancient grape variety when the youngsters also embrace it! We look forward to the promising future of Vis Amoris and the Pigato.
