We’ve all experienced it: you open a bottle of red wine, take the first sip and bam – your whole mouth gets that furry feeling!

Unfortunately, you’ve grabbed a bottle whose tannins haven’t yet been softened. Not to worry, help is on the way. Tip number one: let the wine breathe. Rough tannins begin to soften after two hours in a carafe. Tip number two: serve it with food. Tannin-heavy wines love fat, salt and roasted notes. Their dream pairing? Meat, of course. But roasted vegetables also soften them out.
