On the upper floor of the Tenuta Bocca di Lupo, which sits majestically in the middle of 140 hectares of vineyards, onlookers are left breathless: the façades of the small town of Minervino shine in the distance, the extinct Vulture volcano looms to the west – and surrounding it is an area that has defied urban development for centuries. Traces of man are few and far between in the Alta Murgia ...
Icy winters, rugged terrain with spectacular canyons, thick clouds of mist and extreme temperature fluctuations ... These rocky steppes demand everything from winegrowers! Cultivating this fascinating and demanding terroir requires humility towards nature – but it honours patience and forbearance with the gift of rich, invaluable harvests. In this respect, the name of the Tenuta fits perfectly here, as the Italian greeting «In boca di lupo» means something along the lines of «Break a leg». Just like the entire doc Castel del Monte, the winery enjoys an excellent reputation far beyond Puglia. Grapes such as Aglianico, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fiano Puglia, Moscato Reale and Nero di Troia adapt to the climatic conditions and have taken firm root in the calcareous soils. The architecture of the fortress-like main building with its thick walls is reminiscent of the manor houses of earlier centuries, while the cellar below holds an incredible 1000 oak barrels.
