Update NowIt is a precious legacy that the siblings Raffaella and Giuseppe («Beppe») Bologna, both trained oenologists, are continuing. They are supported by Raffaella’s husband Norbert Reinisch, who is a qualified medical specialist.
The siblings’ father, the unforgettable Giacomo Bologna, who died far too young, made the winery in Piedmont great. He achieved the miracle of bringing world fame to the Barbera variety, which was once treated with disdain and considered to be sour and lacking body. By strictly limiting yields and being the first to age Barbera in barriques, he was able to demonstrate the potential of this underestimated variety. His Bricco dell’Uccellone was a sensation in the 1980s and is still considered a pioneer of modern Barbera today. It remains the company’s flagship product. In addition to other Barberas, the Bolognas also produce other Piedmontese specialities on their 55-hectare estate: from Moscato d’Asti and the white rarity Nascetta to the astonishing Brachetto d’Acqui, whose charm is a pleasure to behold.
