ABC of varieties

Put it in the cellar and forget about it: Aglianico is one of the long-lasting varieties of Southern Italy. demonstrated by the legendary specimens from Taurasi in the region of Campania at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, among others. Muscular when young, with notes of plum and chocolate, with maturity comes an unexpected elegance. Aglianico generally feels at home on volcanic soils: it also produces top wines on the Monte Vulture in Basilicata. It is affectionately known as the «Barolo of the South». Like the Barolo grape Nebbiolo, it is bursting with acidity and tannin and only reveals its true qualities to those who are patient enough.
