There are very few truly great wines in the world that are 100% Merlot. Alongside the legendary Bordeaux cru Pétrus, Masseto is undoubtedly one of them.

Ornellaia's top wine was first produced in 1986, although it was then simply called «Merlot». Then in the 1987 vintage, the Masseto name appeared on the label. The grapes grow in a single vineyard of seven hectares in Bolgheri in the Maremma, in the warm south of Tuscany. Its production is greatly limited by its very nature. Just 30,000 bottles are produced every year.
