People call it the Barolo of the south, but really it stands on its own merit.
Taurasi is simply one of the most complex, characterful Italian red wines, complete with an incredible life span. It comes from Campania and is made from a minimum of 85 per cent Aglianico. As muscular as it is rich in finesse, it is positively teeming with dark fruit and full-flavoured herbs. Producers such as Mastroberardino prove: there are some examples that still offer exquisite drinking pleasure after 50 years or more.
