ABC of varieties

An original from Liguria: Pigato is a variety of Vermentino native to the coast of Liguria in northwest Italy. It owes its name to the word «pigau», dialect for «spotted», because that is what the ripe grapes look like. The wines are wonderfully easy-going: fragrant and fresh with floral notes and subtle spices. A true ambassador of Pigato is the Vis Amoris winery, built by consummate winemaker Roberto Tozzi and family. The vines grow on steep slopes overlooking the sea. Apart from the fallow lands that Tozzi has brought back to life, he has also restored ancient dry-stone walls.
