Update NowIt was first created in 1978. This parcel of the Tenuta Tignanello soaked up the warmth of the sun like a sponge. The harvest that year was so plentiful that Marchese Piero Antinori took the liberty of making a new composition from some of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown for the Tignanello, enhanced with some Cabernet franc and later also with Sangiovese.
Since then, the Solaia vineyards have expanded to 20 hectares, but the family only makes the wine in excellent years. «We are governed entirely by our palate», explains Antinori CEO Renzo Cotarella. The blend takes time to develop; it reveals new facets with every tasting – and at every stage it seems as if it has just bubbled forth from a fountain of youth.
