Update NowOh, if only everyone could create such great things in retirement! The world-famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis truly had nothing more to prove to the world. As the father of wine legends such as Sassicaia, Tignanello and Solaia, he has created varieties with names like Donnerhall, which means «thunder echo». Perhaps it’s only normal that someone like this should not simply retire from the world of work quietly. Retirement came at just the right time for him to start something completely new on the island of Sardinia. Together with Antonello Pilloni from the Sardinian winegrowers’ cooperative Cantina di Santadi and Sebastiano Rosa from Tenuta San Guido, he founded the Agricola Punica there in 2002.
The wines, today vinified by oenologist Giorgio Marone, are based on the Carignano grape, skilfully complemented by international varieties. The Montessu is wonderfully drinkable, a wine that is fought over by all; the Barrua is full-bodied and complex: a top wine with no affectations.
