ABC of grape varieties

Lagrein was probably named after the Lagarino Valley in Trentino, but it isn’t known for sure. One thing is certain: South Tyrol and Trentino have always been the stronghold of this grape. It feels at home in warm locations, where it develops intense cherry and wild berry flavours, complemented by a distinctive violet scent. On the palate, Lagrein is truly seductive – full-bodied, velvety and round. Skilful barrique ageing enriches it with spicy nuances. Plus, Lagrein is a real connoisseur’s wine. Whether South Tyrolean dumplings, pasta with ragù, game dishes or mature cheeses, they all love the red charmer.
