Details
Le Mortelle’s showpiece owes its name to the River Ampio, which flows through the vineyard. The Ampio wine is the union of the very best grapes from the tenuta. Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc. After years of research and experimentation designed to express the best quality characteristics of these grape varieties and the Maremma terroir, 2015 is now the first vintage of this wine.
Recommendations
Great with a lamb gigot, roast beef or mature cheese.
Vinification
At Le Mortelle, gravity is used to transfer the juice from the press to the barrel. Fermentation takes place in a stainless steel tank and malolactic fermentation then takes place in new French oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 18 months before the final assemblage. The wine matures for a further 12 months in the bottle.
