Tasting notes
A masterful interpretation of the particularly warm and sunny year. The dark, intense colour announces a wine of glorious concentration. Rich and complex on the nose, it releases aromas of ripe berry fruit, accompanied by notes of sweet tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, an Ornellaia reveals tremendous balance, a combination of stability and pleasant freshness.

Details
The Bordeaux blend from Tuscany caused a furore in 1985. And it continues to do so today. Made in a modern style and yet keeping within the bounds of regional tradition – a wine that you have to taste at least once in your life!
Recommendations
Especially good with veal. For example, a juicy cutlet in sage butter.
Vinification
After hand-picking in 15 kg crates, the grapes are selected twice over – before and after destemming – then gently pressed. In addition to this manual sorting, a visual grape sorting process was also introduced in 2016 to increase the selection quality even further. Each grape variety and each vineyard parcel was vinified separately. Initially, the week-long alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in cement vats at temperatures below 25°C, followed by a mashing period of around 10–15 days, meaning that the wine spent around three weeks in total in these containers. The malolactic fermentation was carried out mainly in barriques made of oak (70% new barrels and 30% used). The wine spent a period of around 18 months in the barriques, which were stored in the temperature-controlled wine cellars of Ornellaia. After the first twelve months, the varieties were blended together before being returned to the barriques, where the Cuvée remained for a further six months. After bottling, the wine stayed in the bottle for another twelve months before being launched on the market.
