Update NowYes, you heard correctly: 95% of wines deteriorate in storage – or, at the very least, don’t improve. Not all wines are made for spending years maturing in the cellar before being enjoyed. Most wines we buy today come ready to drink, meaning you can serve them immediately.
Conventional white wines and rosés are among the wines that should be enjoyed promptly. We recommend doing so within 12 to 18 months after production.
Most red wines hold up for a year or two under good storage conditions. The question, however, is less about how long the wine stays good and more about whether it will improve in storage.
Naturally, there are some red wines, such as Bordeaux, that need a few years of beauty sleep after bottling to soften their tannins. These wines should be stored in a cool, dark cellar or in a professional wine cabinet. For all other varieties: drink it soon!
