Grillesino, with its 42 hectares of vines, is part of the Compagnia del Vino group, which also offers the impressive Prosecchi of the brand Col de’Salici. This estate in the south of Tuscany was established in 1999 by oenologist Giancarlo Notari and his son Saverio, who runs it today. They showed great foresight helped by a stroke of luck; soon after, the Morellino (aka Sangiovese) that was grown around the small medieval town of Scansanom was elevated to docg status. When choosing the appropriate vines and clones for each individual parcel, the Notaris relied on the research carried out by specialists at the universities of Florence and Bordeaux. This is why, alongside Morellino, they also grow varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot bianco and Viognier. The star in the range, however, is still the Morellino, which thrives in the Mediterranean climate of the Maremma to produce wonderfully charming, round, fruity wines.
