Torre Rosazza

Pignolo – this indigenous grape variety owes its renaissance to dedicated wine companies like Torre Rosazza.

Standing in front of the venerable palazzo of Torre Rosazza and looking across the neatly laid out, steep vine terraces that have to be worked by hand, and far down to the rich historic landscape of the Colli Orientali, you cannot fail to be moved by so much beauty. Here, in this privileged microclimate of Friuli, barren soils and a somewhat cool climate ensure wonderfully fresh wines with typical varietal characteristics.

Oenologist Giovanni Casati and his team focus on indigenous varieties, such as the almost extinct Pignolo, but they also cultivate international vines, carefully choosing the appropriate variety for each parcel of the 95-hectare estate. The Merlot is the calling card of the winery; in fact, it was Torre Rosazza that introduced this variety to Friuli. Its name, Altromerlot («the other Merlot»), says it all and underscores the proud independence of the winery and the entire region.
