Franco M. Martinetti

Gastronomer and winemaker Franco M. Martinetti receives plaudits for his exquisite Piedmontese wine specialities such as Barolo and Barbera d'Asti.
Meeting Franco M. Martinetti is always a special occasion, a precious moment. The grand seigneur from Piedmont, a real old-school gentleman, cultivated, humorous and utterly obsessed by quality, is far from a typical winemaker. Instead of settling in a winemaking village, he lives in the vibrant city of Turin – and he doesn’t own a single vine.
He buys his grapes from selected contract winegrowers, who produce their crop in line with strict requirements, but he monitors and controls every stage of the process, from pruning and harvest through to the maturation of the wines. Only the best is good enough for him. This subtle and perfectionist enogastronomer pays close attention to the smallest of details. His aim is always to produce expressive wines of consummate elegance. Wines that bear his unmistakeable signature. These include his famous Barbera Montruc, which – in keeping with the Frank Sinatra hit «My Way» – he has produced in his own inimitable fashion.
