Riesling

Impressive range
Hardly any other grape variety produces as many different types of wine as Riesling: from bone dry to luxuriously sweet. However, Riesling is a cool climate variety - so is unlikely to thrive in southern regions.
Where it grows:
in Germany
in Austria
in Alsace
In Italy, Riesling is only found occasionally as a blending ingredient and even more rarely as a single-variety wine
What it tastes like:
the most striking characteristic of Riesling is its acidity: hardly any grape variety has higher acidity levels
the grape boasts aromas of citrus fruit, peach and apricot
on barren terroir, it can have a very mineral taste with a flint-like aroma
upon maturity, a characteristic petrol note appears
What it goes with:
fish and seafood
smoked salmon
Riesling is the secret weapon for any kind of smoked dish
...and Asian cuisine!
