In the glass, the wine has a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. The nose has delightfully intense aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and redcurrant, accompanied by balsamic notes, elegant spice and a hint of graphite. It is powerful and structured on the palate, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a striking mineral salinity. Ageing in French oak lends the wine additional depth and finesse.

Details
Colle Mezzano is one of Tenuta di Biserno’s most distinctive wines – an elegant red wine from the Maremma. The grapes come from the area of the same name, around ten kilometres north of Bibbona, where clay and mineral-rich soils and ideal exposures ensure expressiveness and depth. The vines of international varieties were planted back in the early 1990s. A red wine with finesse, depth and Tuscan soul – true to Biserno’s philosophy.
Recommendations
Ideal with braised lamb, game dishes or mature hard cheese – but also a dream pairing with mushroom risotto.
Vinification
The grapes are carefully picked by hand and vinified separately. After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is matured for 12 to 16 months in French oak barriques – some of which are new – followed by at least twelve months of ageing in the bottle. This ageing process brings structure, complexity and ageing potential without overpowering the freshness and elegance of the wine.
